Prayers and Greetings from St. John Paul II Syro-Malabar Catholic Church, Regina

Welcome Back Parish Priest


Fr. Daris Cherian returned from his vacation on October 14th. He was stuck in Kerala for about 6 months due to the pandemic restrictions and delays associated with it. Parishioners welcomed their vicar with a flower bouquet and expressed their happiness.


Parish Feast Celebrations


Regina Parish celebrated the Feast of our Parish Patron, St. John Paul II on Sunday, October 24th. In preparation for the Feast, 9 days Novena began on October 15th. Daily services included Holy Rosary, Holy Mass and Novena to St. John Paul II.


Thirunnal Kodiyett:


The main 3 days celebrations of the Parish Feast commenced with Thirunnal Kodiyett on Friday, October 22nd. Holy Rosary recital was at 5:30 pm, followed by Kodiyett and Holy Mass by the Parish priest, Fr. Daris Cherian.


Presudenti Vazhcha:


We had 192 Presudentis this year, from the Parish and from all over Canada. Many people outside of the Parish joined as Presudentis and received blessings of St. John Paul II. Presudenti Vazhcha was done during the Holy Mass celebrated by Fr. Varkey Thattuparambil. We would like to thank all the Presudentis and may God bless you all.


Feast Day Celebration:


Regina Syro-Malabar Catholic Parish is blessed with the presence of dear Bishop Mar Jose Kalluvelil on Feast Day as the main celebrant for the Holy Mass. Archbishop of Regina, His Excellency Donald Bolen also joined for the Feastal celebration and presented the felicitation. Feast day services began with Holy Rosary, Welcoming the Bishop to the Parish, Solemn High Mass, Novena, Ladeenju and Blessings



Publishing the history of St. John Paul II Syro-Malabar Catholic Parish Regina


The history book of Regina Syro-Malabar Catholic Parish was very kindly prepared by one of our Pioneers, Mr. Mathew Thomas. Parish Priest, Fr. Daris handed over the copy to Bishop Mar. Jose Kalluvelil. After unveiling the book, it was presented to Archbishop Donald Bolen during the Festal Celebration.



Bishop's Pastoral Visit


During the one week visit to Regina, Bishop was very kindly willing to schedule his precious time for the following: Thirunnal Kurbana at St. John Paul II Syro-Malabar Catholic Parish Regina, Meeting with Archbishop Don at his office, Holy Mass, retreat talk with Holy hour for Regina Syro-Malabar parish, Regina. Holy Mass for Regina Syro-Malabar parish followed by the parish. Holy Mass for St.Little Flower Syro-Malabar mission at Weyburn and Holy Mass for St. Mary's Syro-Malabar mission at Moosejaw. Regina Parish and the missions extend their heartfelt gratitude to Bishop.



Observation of Rosary Month


The month of October is dedicated to special attention and honour to Mother Mary and we do daily Holy Rosary prayers. The last 10 days of Rosary month were spiritually celebrated with Holy Rosary recital in the church followed by Holy Mass. The Rosary month celebration was ended on Sunday, October 31st.





Catechism Department updates - 2021-2022

The first meeting of the Catechism department for this new academic year was held on August 13, 2021, with the presence of Fr. Daris and teachers. New Principal (Renjini Joseph) and Vice-principal (Anju Chacko) were selected and three new teaches join our team. Catechism Department inauguration was done on September 19, 2021, after Holy Mass by Fr. George Thattuparambil followed by his beautiful message. Catechism classes started on September 19, 2021, via a virtual platform. A total of 59 students have been registered in this new academic year with 16 teachers.

A new coordinator (Anju Chacko) was selected for this year. Forane level competition was conducted for the St.Joseph’s Year talent fest 2021: Leann Anurag from Grade 1 won second prize in singing competition in Eparchy level. Congratulations Leann, Regina Parish is very proud of you!

Holyween Celebrations


Regina Parish celebrated Holyween on Sunday, October 31st after Holy Mass. Children aged 3 months to grade 8 dressed up as saints and performed at church. Catechism department coordinated the holyween Saint’s parade. Prizes were disturbed right after the Program.



SMYM Regina Parish


The world youth day celebration was conducted at Regina Parish under the leadership of the SMYM unit. The program started with Holy Mass, followed by a social gathering, welcoming and introducing new members. Small snacks and refreshments were provided.




St John Paul II Knights of Columbus Council # 17190


In-person Exemplification of recently joined members of St. John Paul II Council of Knights of Columbus held on Sunday, November 14th after the Holy Mass. This was the first in-person exemplification conducted in the City since the pandemic hit. There were nine members of our council who received their 3rd-degree knight during this ceremony. New officers of the executive committee were installed as well the same day. Mathew Thomas, Best in Kurian, and Sony Joseph were installed as Grand Knight, Deputy Grand Knight and Financial Secretary respectively. Campion College K of C team carried out the Exemplification and the solemn event ended with social and light refreshments. Twenty-five new members have joined the order in recent months and $250 was raised towards the annual charity appeal.



Nurses Ministry Regina Nurses Ministry held a chain Rosary on Nov. 13th for the whole world, requesting the intercession of the Holy Mother. Nurses' Ministry meeting was held on November 19th. The meeting decided to conduct the Nurses Ministry Christmas Celebration on Sunday, December 12th, after the Holy Mass. The team also decided to sing a Christmas song and send it to the national team. A choir practice session will be held on December 12th. In addition, we are looking forward to hearing more suggestions from the other members too for the Christmas celebration.
